Episode 25: STITCHES

Click here to listen to: Stitches

Hi All,

There is never a dull moment in the Night Light Stories household, that is for sure! Monday night was even more exciting than usual.  Our 5 year old hit his head on the bathroom sink which resulted in a trip to the ER and 5 stitches. He was so brave through it all. Mr. Chris and I were really proud of him!  From that experience our story was created.  Please feel free to share your own stories of bumps, bruises, casts, and stitches with us in the comment section, on our Facebook Fan Page, or at nightlightstories@gmail.com.  We hope you have a safe and enjoyable week!

What did you say? A word of the day! That is right! In our story there are many juicy words that are fun to use and say.

amiss: improper or wrong
consequence: the effect, result, or outcome of something occurring earlier.
exotic: of foreign origin
trickle:to flow or fall from drops, in a small gentle stream.

JUST ADD IMAGINATION!
Try these activities to keep your imagination glowing after hearing the story.

1. The letters ER are an abbreviation for Emergency Room. Can you think of other words that have abbreviations? Make a list and see how many you can think of!

2.  The boy waited for the doctor for 23 minutes. Try to read, build blocks, play dolls or cars for 23 minutes to see how long that really is.

COMPREHENSION CHALLENGE
After listening to the story, can you recall the details to answer these questions?

1. What made the little boy close his eyes when he got out of the shower?

2. Where did they have to go after he hit his head?

LIGHTING THE WAY WITH WORDS

I was bewildered when I opened the washing machine and saw this toy in there. Its face was perfect for what it had just been through.  Have you found yourself bewildered by anything lately?  Have you caught the look of  someone being bewildered on your camera? Feel free to share your visual definition of bewildered with us at nightlightstories@gmail.com or post them on our Facebook Fan Page.
As always we look forward to the many words we can share together.

LIGHTING THE WAY WITH WORDS

There is an abundant amount of delicious vegetables to eat on this plate! Thanks Kim for this picture full of an abundant assortment of color!

Have I started selling balloons in Walt Disney World? No, but it looked like a fun job to me!  Mr. Chris and I were recently at Disney for his cousin's wedding and we spent one of the days doing a scavenger hunt the bride had put together. We had a blast!  There were an abundant amount of things on the list to find in Hollywood Studios, including holding a balloon. When the balloon man in Hollywood Studios heard that I had to take a picture of myself holding a balloon, he handed me his whole bundle. I thought for a moment I might lift off the ground! There were so many things to see and do, but we stayed focused, even when I wanted to stay and sell balloons.

I had abundant ideas floating around in my head of activities that can be done with this picture.  I thought I would share some with you to try if you would like!

1. Count the balloons in the picture. How many are there?

2. How many blue balloons do you see? How many red ones? How many yellow ones? How many green ones?

3.  Graph each color balloon on a chart. Which color is most abundant?

4.  Write a story about Ms. Mel and the balloons.

5. Try to use the word "abundant" this week in your conversations.

LIGHTING THE WAY WITH WORDS

We find our children really have such a zest for life.  It is infectious and helps us to slow down, smell the roses, and look at the cute lady bug on the pedal. What do you find you have a zest for?  Share your visual definition of zest with us at nightlightstories@gmail.com or post your picture on our Facebook Fan Page.  As always, we look forward to the many words we can share together.
