This picture was taken of our son in White Sands
a National Park in New Mexico.
It was bright, breath taking, xeric, and did I mention sweltering?
What environments have you visited that could be described as "xeric"?
Feel free to send us a picture to

Whenever I wink at our kids, they know it is a sign that I am kidding with them. I also will often use the phrase "quick as a wink" with them.
They know this means to do what I asked of them quickly.
Do you have a picture of a great wink
Send it to us, quick as a wink!
You can send it to nightlightstories@gmail.com
or post it on our Facebook page.

As always, we look forward to watching the glow grow brighter

Episode 32 (Flashlight): The Leprechaun Trap

Click here to listen to: The Leprechaun Trap

Hi All,

We want to send out a special thanks to Mover Dave of the Imagination Movers for recording a bumper for us. Did you know they have a song called “Luck of the Irish” that has a St. Patty’s Day theme as well? It’s sure to get your wee ones up and dancin’ a jig, just like a leprechaun.  Speaking of leprechauns, have you ever tried to trap one?  If so, send us a picture of your clever trap to nightlightstories@gmail.com or post it on our Facebook page.  As you listen to the story, consider the following: “What’s the best way to show someone that you’re listening to them?”

VORACIOUS VOCABULARY
What did you say? A word of the day! In our story there are many
juicy words that are fun to use and say.

interlocking: to lock one with another.
makeshift: a temporary substitute.
teleport: to transport a person or object across a distance instantaneously.

JUST ADD IMAGINATION!
Try these activities to keep your imagination glowing after hearing the story.

1. Create your own leprechaun trap using things you find around your house.
2. Make a list of all the green things you find in your house.
3. Mr. Chris attempts to speak with an Irish accent in our story. For one meal, have everyone in the family try to speak using an Irish accent.

COMPREHENSION CHALLENGE

After listening to the story, can you recall the details to answer these questions?

1. What are the 3 ways that the leprechauns try to escape from the trap?
2. Why didn't stacking and stepping on the marshmallows work?
3. How do the leprechauns eventually escape from the trap?
4. Who do you think helped the kids build the leprechaun trap?
5. What was the leprechaun trap made out of?

LIGHTING THE WAY WITH WORDS

Have you heard our newest story?
Click here to listen to: "That's Not How Daddy Does It!"

Here is a challenge for you. Try to replace "very" with "uber" in your conversations this week. For example, if you tell someone you are "very" tired, switch it to be "uber" tired. They mean the same thing. "Uber" is just more fun to say!

Episode 31: That's Not How Daddy Does It!

Click here to listen to: That's Not How Daddy Does It!

Hi All,

We want to send out a special thanks to Mover Scott of the Imagination Movers for recording a bumper for us. We wish them all much success on their tour as they travel around the United States.  Speaking of traveling, Mr. Chris has been doing a lot of that lately because he has been presenting at conferences. It’s amazing how accustomed the kids have become to each of our parenting styles. As you listen to the story, consider the following: “What’s something special you do with each of your parents?”

VORACIOUS VOCABULARY
What did you say? A word of the day! In our story there are many
juicy words that are fun to use and say.

expedition: a journey or voyage made for some specific purpose.
fret: to feel or express worry.
mammoth: immensely large.
steed:a horse, especially a high spirited one.

JUST ADD IMAGINATION!
Try these activities to keep your imagination glowing after hearing the story.

1.  Play a rhyming game with a friend or family member. See who can come up with the most rhyming words by tallying them on a piece of paper!  How many words can you come up with that rhyme with: steed, fret, hug, car, plane, play, fair, and friend.

2. If you could go on an expedition, where would it be to? What would you discover?  Draw a picture of you on your expedition

COMPREHENSION CHALLENGE

After listening to the story, can you recall the details to answer these questions?

1. Where is the boy exploring on Day 4?

2. What happens at the bakery that makes the boy's eyes grow twice as wide?
3. How long will his Dad be gone on his trip?
4. Why does the boy begin to fret when he walks into the bathroom?
5. Who does the boy miss at the end of the story?
